Who: MSNBC host Rachel Maddow
What: Earlier this week, the host of “The Rachel Maddow Show” launched a stinging critique of John McCain’s geographical campaign strategy, illustrating her comments with a map featuring key battleground states for the GOP ticket.
Why it’s dim: Maddow incorrectly labeled Indiana as Illinois – the home state of Barack Obama, who said in May there were 57 states.

Ripping off injured vets
Who: Dr. Robert Ratliff
What: The inspector general of the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs found that the former director of a veterans hospital in Birmingham, Alabama deleted potentially incriminating files from his hard drive during what he called “spring cleaning.” Auditors have accused Ratliff of using government funds to make thousands of personal calls on his hospital-issued Blackberry and travel to properties he owns in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.
Why it’s an outrage: VA funds are supposed to help wounded veterans, not used as a private slush fund. And why wasn’t the IG report released to the public before the Washington Post had to file a FOIA request?
