Teachers unions rewards Gavin Newsom with $2 million for its yearlong paid vacation

Gavin Newsom gave California’s teachers unions more than a year of paid vacation. And boy, has it paid off for the California governor.

If the unions’ $2 million in donations do indeed help save Newsom from the Sept. 14 recall election he now faces, he might find a way to give them a second school year off.

With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s reversal of its indoor mask guidance, union boss Randi Weingarten has finally said the quiet part out loud. On MSNBC, the head of the American Federation of Teachers refused to commit to an actual, in-person school curriculum this fall.

“While vaccination is our No. 1 gold standard, we need to bring back our masks for schools,” Weingarten said. “The bottom line is, we’re going to keep kids safe, we’re going to keep our members safe, and we’re going to try to open up schools.”

After over a year of Weingarten and her cronies holding America’s children hostage, our parents know exactly what the unions “trying” to open up schools means: It’s not happening.

Although Newsom is favored to beat the recall effort, the polling has narrowed, with star conservative commentator Larry Elder jumping into a race already populated by California powerhouses such as former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner. Just as the polls have tightened, the teachers have swept in to save the day, with the California Teachers Association giving Newsom’s campaign a whopping $1.8 million a day after Weingarten’s AFT pitched in a quarter-million dollars.

Newsom knows where his bread is buttered, and he knows that nothing in life is free. If he survives this recall, he will face regular reelection the following year. Newsom will be expected to deliver for the teachers unions again, and he most certainly will. Only one question — if one year of your kids’ lives was only worth $2 million, how much will the next year cost?
