President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama celebrated 17 years together Saturday night with an anniversary dinner at the Blue Duck Tavern in the city’s West End. Photos from the outing look a little grainy and weird — according to pool reports from the evening, the president’s dutiful, on-the-job press contingent was kept way back from the first couple.
Dinner over at 9:15pm, and a few passersby, including a handful of DC
firemen, strain for a look at the First Couple as they depart. Digital
cameras flash, a few people lean over apartment balconies for a glimpse.
Some cheers as the First Couple emerge, which POTUS acknowledges with a
wave.
The Obamas seemed to be keeping the whole thing low-key. Compared to previous date nights, though, they still looked a little…gloomy. And since you asked, furniture is the designated gift for a 17th anniversary.
