CNN blames large gatherings for fueling the pandemic and omits all mention of anti-police protests

CNN published a report this week alleging that mass gatherings, including two parties, a concert, and an anti-lockdown demonstration, are fueling the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.

Notably absent from the article are mentions of the massive anti-police protests, including the Black Lives Matters demonstrations that daily and nightly fill the streets of major cities. Not even a word. How does one write an entire article about the dangers of mass gatherings without mentioning the largest mass gatherings in the country right now?

It is not an oversight.

“Large gatherings are fueling rising Covid-19 cases, but they keep happening,” reads the article’s headline.

With the coronavirus running rampant within American communities, health officials have made clear it's not yet time to ease up on precautions,” its opening line states. “Instead, governors and experts from coast to coast have urged Americans to keep face masks in indoor public spaces, maintain their distance from others and avoid crowded spaces.”

It continues, noting that infections nationwide have surpassed 4.3 million and that the virus has killed roughly 150,000.

But “despite the grim numbers and stern warnings,” the article adds, “some Americans have chosen to return to pre-pandemic habits, ditching guidelines and attending parties.”

The CNN report goes on to detail the events of a house party this weekend in New Jersey, where the police had to work several hours sending an estimated 700 people home. The article also mentions a recent concert in New York, which drew a stern rebuke from Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who said he was “appalled” and vowed an investigation. The CNN report also highlights a party held in Michigan earlier this month as well as an anti-lockdown demonstration held last week in Minnesota.

What the CNN article does not mention, however, among all the incidents that are possibly “fueling rising Covid-19 cases,” are the massive anti-police rallies that continue to take place nearly every day in major U.S. cities.

The article makes no mention of the hundreds of protesters who gathered last week in Portland:

The article does not mention the protesters who gathered last Saturday in New York City:

The article does not mention the protesters in Oakland, California:

The article does not mention the rioters in Los Angeles:

The article does not mention the protesters in Chicago:

You get the picture.

CNN cannot shame those who have flouted social distancing guidelines, going as far as to accuse them of fueling the pandemic, while also ignoring the group that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, warned specifically was doing a poor job of observing the separation rules. One must be consistent. The virus does not discriminate between them based on whether their cause is righteous.
