COVID rules never applied to Democratic politicians in California

California Democrats rely on the partisanship of their state to avoid answering for their misdeeds. That is why, once again, prominent politicians were pictured partying it up without masks in Los Angeles, which has among the most strict mask mandates in the country.

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers in front of a crowd of 73,202 fans to advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday. It was the most high-profile football game in Los Angeles since 1993, and so prominent California politicians were in attendance, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and San Francisco Mayor London Breed. Thanks to former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson, we know that those three ditched the masks for the game.

Los Angeles County mandates masks, regardless of vaccination status, for people attending “outdoor Mega Events,” which includes sports games with over 5,000 people in attendance. Watching the game, you could see few, if any, masked attendees. Newsom, Breed, and Garcetti were among those going unmasked.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles County is also mandating masks for children and school staff, whether they be indoors or outdoors. California also has a statewide mask mandate through Feb. 15, regardless of vaccination status. Plenty of people throughout the state ignore the guidance, but children in schools have no such freedom. While Newsom, Breed, and Garcetti are palling around with celebrities, children in schools up and down the state can’t see the faces of their classmates or teachers for most of their school day.

Of course, all three politicians will get away with this blatant hypocrisy. Breed has repeatedly been caught violating her own mask mandates in San Francisco, brazenly mocking residents who expect her to abide by it. “I got up and started dancing because I was feeling the spirit, and I wasn’t thinking about a mask,” Breed said when caught maskless at a bar. “I was thinking about having a good time.”

Newsom, meanwhile, faced a recall after he was caught violating his own statewide COVID restrictions while celebrating the birthday of a lobbyist at an upscale French restaurant. After a brief scare, he cruised to victory thanks to the partisanship of the state while constantly talking about former President Donald Trump. The only lesson Newsom and other politicians learned was that they don’t need to follow their own rules. They can be massive hypocrites, going about life as normal while regular residents, and especially children, are forced to adhere to restrictions.

Newsom, Breed, and Garcetti will offer non-apologies or justify their behavior, continuing to restrict children to please COVID-panicked liberals, and then move on. They know their constituents won’t hold them accountable because they have done this before. While another massive crowd will come to Los Angeles for the Super Bowl in two weeks, children will still be forced to wear masks for multiple hours a day until the hypocrites in charge decide on a whim to let children live by the same COVID standards that they do.
