Washington Examiner senior columnist Guy Benson said the latest escalation in the Iran war was expected, that President Donald Trump was seeking a peaceful resolution, but Iran proved itself to be unreliable in its ceasefire agreement.
Benson credited Trump for an “old lefty slogan” called “give peace a chance.”

“He did. He really did,” Benson said on Fox News’s Special Report with Bret Baier Wednesday. “And there was a lot of very optimistic sort of rainbows and butterflies, one might argue, naive talk, about how this third rung [lower level] of leadership is much more rational, ‘We’ve turned a page.’”
The United States and Iran traded a new round of strikes overnight Thursday.
U.S. Central Command said that it struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets overnight, aiming to degrade Iran’s ability to control the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said the ceasefire was “over.”
“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” CENTCOM said on X.

“This has been a hard dose of reality, once again, delivered by the regime itself,” Benson said. “But this is what they do: They provoke, they lie, they escalate, they play games. And sounds like President Trump has had it up to here.”
“The peace chance has happened, and now it looks like the bombs are dropping again,” he added.
