Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned protections for abortion laid out in Roe v. Wade, were captured on social media.

Justices Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Chief Justice John Roberts voted to overturn the previous precedent and instead give states the power to determine limits on when a woman can terminate a pregnancy.

“I know it was expected, but I am still shook,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) wrote on Twitter. “When they say what they are planning to do, believe them,” Tlaib said of the six justices who voted to set the new abortion precedent.

NBC host Chuck Todd accused the court of politicizing their roles as justices.

“I think there are no more black robes. I think the robes are red and blue,” Todd said Thursday. “We’re used to the Supreme Court granting rights.”

“The majority of Americans want stricter gun laws and more access to healthcare. The minority of white Christian nationalists run our country and are not Christian in any sense of the word,” celebrity chef Valerie Bertinelli wrote on Twitter. “We are NOT the greatest country in the world.”

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) shared a video of herself calling Friday “a truly terrifying day in America,” and she appeared to be on the verge of tears.

“The extremist, partisan Supreme Court has attacked personal liberties and freedom with their radical decision that ignores legal precedent and imposes their religious views on the entire country,” Moore wrote.

“This Supreme Court decision is devastating for millions of women and pregnant people across the country,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) similarly wrote on Twitter. “I am outraged this right-wing court is turning the clock back on generations of progress and prohibiting individuals to have autonomy over their bodies.”

“The Senate has a moral responsibility to abolish the filibuster and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to enshrine reproductive rights into law,” Omar said in a release. “I won’t stop fighting to protect women’s freedom to control their bodies, lives, and futures.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez echoed Omar’s statement, calling for unity and saying that “now is the time to stick together.”

“People will die because of this decision,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “And we will never stop until abortion rights are restored in the United States of America.”
