Lindsey Graham on why Donald Trump is the Wizard of Oz

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham says Donald Trump is the Wizard of Oz, and that as well as Trump is doing in recent polls, soon everyone will there is less there than meets the eye.

“I think the more he exposes himself, putting forward solutions that are unworkable, the charm begins to fade after a while when you realize there’s nothing behind the curtain,” Graham said in an interview with the Des Moines Register at the Iowa State Fair.

Graham, like Trump, is seeking the Republican presidential nomination. However, Trump leads the GOP field, while Graham remains an underdog.

According to Graham, Trump’s “gibberish” immigration plan will be the undoing of his campaign.

“His immigration plan is complete gibberish. It’s unworkable. It makes no sense,” Graham said about the plan, which is “going to get zero Democratic support and almost no Republican support. So this will be his eventual undoing. …Do you think Mexico is really going to pay for a wall? …It’s not practical to drive 11 million people out. That’s not going to work.”

Trump’s immigration plan includes building a wall across the 1,900-mile U.S.-Mexico border, in addition to deporting up about 11 million people.

Graham also took shots on Trump’s idea of taking over Iraq’s oil fields (“That’s a good way to start World War III”), in addition to the “silly stuff” he does in public that makes the headlines. Trump also fails to connect with Hispanic voters and female voters, which are keys to winning the nomination and eventually the White House, Graham said.

Graham and Trump have tussled before. In South Carolina last month, Trump called Graham and “idiot” and a “stiff,” before sharing the senator’s private cellphone number publicly. Graham then called Trump a “jackass” for his remarks.

In a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Trump leads the GOP field with 22 points, while Graham sits in last place with 0.3 points.
