Special counsel Robert Mueller issued a subpoena to former Trump campaign officials in mid-October, ordering them to hand over Russia-related materials, according to a report Thursday.
A source told the Wall Street Journal that Mueller’s team asked over a dozen top campaign officials to submit Russia-related documents and emails that contain certain keywords relating to the investigation.
The campaign team was surprised by the subpoena since they have been voluntarily working with Mueller’s team and sharing information and documents, however, the Trump officials are handing over the documents on an “ongoing” basis, the source added.
Mueller is leading the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion between President Trump’s campaign and the Kremlin.
