Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley hosted a press conference in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday, and used his backdrop as a chance to slam GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
“I am here in Nevada to talk to the AFL-CIO, and during my visit I wanted to do a press availability here because I think that there are no two greater contrasts between an economy that works for all of us and the sort of economy that Donald would seek to have the Republican Party construct in the United States than this backdrop,” he said according to CNN.
The former governor of Maryland has consciously tacked left in an effort to distinguish himself from Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. He has come out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and backed a $15 dollar federal minimum wage. So far, however, grassroots energy on the left opposing Clinton has been monopolized by Bernie Sanders, and O’Malley has struggled to crack even one percent in some national polls.
Some workers at the hotel are seeking to join the Culinary Local 226, but O’Malley was joined only by only about ten workers and union organizers, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Nevada is the site of the third Democratic primary, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 20.
