Debbie Wasserman Schultz has an ‘Elle Woods’ story

It’s always interesting to see which celebrities strike Washington’s fancy during White House Correspondents’ weekend. In the case of Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., she was a bit smitten to see actress Reese Witherspoon (also: George Clooney).

“She was so nice,” the Florida Democrat told Yeas & Nays on the beige carpet of the MSNBC after-party, with her husband in tow. It turns out that Witherspoon, or rather her iconic character Elle Woods, played a special role in Wasserman Schultz’s first election. “The poster of ‘Legally Blonde 2’ we had up in my campaign office, and my campaign staff, in my first race for Congress, put my face in place of her face in the movie poster,” Wasserman Schultz recalled. And the two aren’t far off style wise either. “I have worn all pink on the House floor,” the Congresswoman said.

On Saturday she chose to wear a long Ralph Lauren gown with her Congressional lapel pin attached to the strap. “$100 from Bloomingdale’s, such a good deal,” she gushed.
