While dog lovers everywhere cooed when the Obamas last year brought home their puppy, Bo Obama, Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., doesn’t find his Portuguese water dog quite as cute and cuddly.
He revealed one pet peeve at Tuesday’s House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior hearing after actor Kyle MacLachlan of “Desperate Housewives” and ranking member and Idaho Republican Rep. Mike Simpson’s conversation went to the dogs.
“I trust they are not Portuguese water dogs?” Moran asked the actor, who was supposed to be testifying about arts funding, but instead was chatting with Simpson about his two dogs.
“Ted Kennedy unloaded one of those on me,” Moran added.
“You don’t unload a dog,” Simpson interrupted.
Moran then tried to backtrack.
“It’s wonderful, but she insists with sleeping with the head on the pillow,” Moran complained.
MacLachlan was making his first trip to Capitol Hill and appeared alongside Jeff Daniels as part of Arts Advocacy Day. When Daniels testified, he too had something to offer.
“I do have two dogs and they sleep on the pillow,” he said.
