GOP lawmaker won’t back ‘serial adulterer’ Donald Trump

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks says he cannot endorse Donald Trump for president because the billionaire is a “serial adulterer.”

Speaking with MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki on Monday, the Republican lawmaker, who is backing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, said he thinks that in the next 12 to 18 months, “a lot of people who have supported Donald Trump — they’re going to regret having done so in 12 to 18 months.”

Brooks said Trump’s supporters currently are enamored with his personality.

“I don’t think you can trust Trump with anything he says,” citing Trump’s track record as the reason why.

Brooks then explained why he refuses to follow Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions in endorsing Trump.

“Donald Trump is an adulterer. I don’t support people who support adultery,” Brooks said. “And I don’t trust people who are serial adulterers as Donald Trump has been, and bragged about in writing, because I don’t think that’s an honorable thing for a trait in a person.”

“And so if you look at all the different things about Donald Trump in his history, I’m one of those [who are] very hesitant,” Brooks said.

Brooks said Trump admitted to “repeatedly committed” adultery with married and single women, and adding that these are “Donald Trump’s words, not mine.”

Brooks perhaps was referring to Trump’s book published in 1997, The Art of the Comeback, where he wrote: “If I told the real stories of my experiences with women, often seemingly very happily married and important women, this book would be a guaranteed best-seller.”
