Sure, the main theme for this year’s White House Christmas decor centers around celebrating our military brass, but it was the many Bos that stole the show. In every decorated room of the White House there’s a Bo. “So it’s sort of a ‘Where’s Bo?'” First Lady Michelle Obama explained to guests who were getting a first taste of the holiday decorations Wednesday. “You’ve got to find the Bo in every room because he’s hidden everywhere,” she added, dubbing the family pet the “most famous member of the Obama family.”
There’s a large felt Bo (or Bo Topiary, as its being called) in the East Garden Room, a teenie tiny Bo among the wine glasses in the China Room and another big Bo, this one made of plastic bags, in the library. There’s also a Bo in front of the 400 pound gingerbread house, which, for the first time, features a miniature beehive next to the garden. “It’s become a very important part of our work here,” Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses said of the hive.
And, back to Bo, the real one attended the festivities too. The Portuguese Water dog trotted in front of one of the outdoor Christmas trees as if it were a step-and-repeat so that reporters covering the event could snap his picture.
