Fiorina hits Cruz: ‘I haven’t heard him stand up for the Constitution’

Carly Fiorina slammed fellow Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz while campaigning in Iowa Tuesday.

The female GOP hopeful, who fell to 3 percent in a recent poll of Hawkeye State Republicans, described Trump as a “gift-wrapped present” for the Democratic Party and Cruz as his loyal sidekick.

“Here’s what I absolutely know: Hillary Clinton thinks Donald Trump is a gift-wrapped present under the tree,” Fiorina reportedly said, echoing an opinion she’s previously expressed in stump speeches.

She continued, “We will also lose the Senate and we may well lose the House. [Clinton] would be very happy … to face Donald Trump.”

Fiorina also suggested that Cruz “has been campaigning in Iowa a lot, and I haven’t heard him stand up for ethanol, but I also haven’t heard him stand up for the Constitution as Donald Trump is trampling it.”

Cruz had previously said he disagrees with Trump’s recent proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the U.S., but has declined to rule out its constitutionality.

“I am focused on my policies and the solutions that I am proposing to the real problems of this country,” Cruz told a reporter who explicitly asked the graduate of Harvard Law if Trump’s plan was constitutional.

Fiorina, meanwhile, didn’t hesitate Tuesday to denounce Trump’s controversial proposal.

“It’s a violation of our Constitution, but it also undermines the character of our nation. We stand for religious liberty,” she said.

Fiorina added that “Donald Trump needed the spotlight back.”

“So this is what he said, and everybody’s paying attention,” she said.
