Cruz shrugs off lack of endorsements

Ted Cruz hasn’t gotten the backing of any of his Senate colleagues in his presidential bid, but the Texas Republican said Thursday that’s not what he cares about.

Asked by Fox News’ Chris Wallace whether his often-combative style and habit of alienating other Republicans gets in the way of getting things done, Cruz responded that he didn’t go to Washington “to go along, to get along.”

“You are exactly right — I am not the candidate of career politicians in Washington,” Cruz said, adding that the endorsements he is proud of are those of Iowa Rep. Steve King, conservative leader James Dobson and the volunteers and donors to his campaign.

Not one sitting senator or governor has endorsed Cruz, while his rival Marco Rubio has been chalking up more endorsements nearly every day. Cruz has dismissed the issue, touting himself as the Washington outsider candidate. Both men are in their first Senate term.
