CNN is pushing ahead with its campaign against “fake news,” by hiring a reporter who will investigate “fake news” and figure out “why so many of us no longer believe” the truth.
CNN put out a job ad that says the reporter will work as part of CNN’s media reporting team.
The reporter “should get angry every time they see any inaccuracy in any story, whether large or small, and whether published by a fake news site or a real one,” the ad says.
So-called “fake news” became a topic in the 2016 campaign after Michael Flynn, President-elect Trump’s choice for national security adviser, used his Twitter account to share an unsubstantiated story about Hillary Clinton that involved child sex trafficking.
The episode climaxed in December when a man with a gun entered a Washington, D.C., restaurant that was mentioned in the hoax and opened fire. No one was hurt.
Many conservatives and Trump supporters, however, have dismissed “fake news” as merely an excuse Democrats and more mainstream news outlets are using for Clinton losing the election.
CNN’s ad for the reporter position says the writer will be in responsible for “investigating fake news, hoaxes and untruths of all kinds,” as well as “debunking myths.”
