White House reporter secures details on Obama’s Hawaiian dessert

There must not be a lot going on in Hawaii, where President Obama is in the tail end of his holiday.

Included in one of the latest White House pool reports by the Wall Street Journal’s Carol Lee, who is one of the several reporters following Obama during his stay, are details on the president’s snow-cone flavor preference.

Pool reports are write-ups of public events by individual reporters selected to represent the regular White House press corps. The pool reports are sent out to an extensive list of media professionals, many of them other reporters who use the write-ups to craft stories for their own publications.

On Thursday, Obama and his daughters visited a local shave ice shop, according to Lee’s report.

“He was eating his shave ice — yellow, green and red — with a spoon and chatting with the family and friends who were with him. About half a dozen young kids were with him,” the report said. “[The White House] says [Obama] ordered melon, lilikoi and cherry. [Reporters] did not see him order and wasn’t close enough during the spray to hear anything he was saying.”

Obama then told the reporters following him, “Happy New Year” and “nothing more to see,” the report said. It also noted that Obama asked the reporters if they wanted some of his shave ice.
