Former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president on Wednesday.
“Last Tuesday we had a primary [in Virginia] and I walked into the ballot box and I looked at the ballot and I saw my own name on the ballot, it was kind of a thrill, but then I checked the box for Ted Cruz and I’m here to tell you why,” she said to loud applause at a Cruz rally in Miami, Fla.
The former Hewlett Packard CEO touted Cruz as a fighter, reformer and constitutional conservative that others should unite behind. She also made a case against letting Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton win the presidency.
“The truth is that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are two sides of the same coin. They’re not going to reform the system, they are the system,” Fiorina said. “And so when the establishment says ‘Ted Cruz is too conservative, he’s too much of a fighter, he won’t get along,’ I say, ‘You go, Ted!'”
Fiorina’s endorsement puts additional pressure on Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who has cast his home state’s primary as the ultimate proving ground for his presidential campaign. Rubio’s presidential bid has struggled to gain traction thus far, and he has trailed Trump in recent polling of his home state.
Florida will hold its primary on Tuesday.
