Mitt Romney on Tuesday took part in late night host Jimmy Kimmel’s hallowed tradition of having celebrities read mean tweets about themselves, narrating some of the backlash he’s received for criticizing Donald Trump.
Romney came out forcefully against Trump last week, warning that choosing him as the Republican presidential nominee would jeopardize America’s future. Trump and his supporters have hit back forcefully at Romney, particularly online.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the host handed Romney a series of cards containing Twitter users’ actual words. First up: From Trump himself.
“‘Mitt Romney had his chance and blew it. Lindsey Graham ran for president, got ZERO, and quit! Why are they now spokesmen against me? Sad!'” Romney read. He hit back: “Got zero. The only people I know who got zero are the ones who payed 25 grand to be at Trump University. They’re the ones who got zero.”
Next were several from online Trump supporters.
“‘@MittRomney = loser,'” Romney read, immediately following up: “That’s true, actually, I lost. You may not have noticed.”
“‘@MittRomney = loser, who are you any way, and by the way where do u buy the shoe polish u wear in ur hair lol #Trump2016.'” Romney’s answer: “I buy it at Costco in bulk.”
And finally there was this one: “‘I’d pay good money to watch Mitt Romney crying in a ball pit at a Chucky Cheese.'”
