Cruz: Obama refugee plan is ‘nothing short of lunacy’

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz thinks the Obama administration’s plan to deal with refugees fleeing Syria is “nothing short of lunacy.”

In an interview set to air on CNN Tuesday morning, the Republican presidential candidate defended taking extra precaution after investigations of the Paris terrorist attacks produced links to the refugee crisis in war-torn Syria.

“What Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are proposing is that we bring to this country tens of thousands of Syrian Muslim refugees,” Cruz told CNN. “I have to say, particularly in light of what happened in Paris, that’s nothing short of lunacy.”

Cruz appeared to reject CNN’s comparison between the Syrian refugee crisis and how his father, Rafael Cruz, emigrated Cuba. He said it would have made complete sense to block his father from entering the United States, “if my father were part of a theocratic and political movement like radical Islamism that promotes murdering anyone who doesn’t share your extreme faith or forcibly converting them.”

Cruz ranks second in the Washington Examiner‘s GOP presidential power rankings.
