‘Death of American Virtue’ details yet another Clinton affair

Author Ken Gormley has another name to add to the who-has-Bill-Clinton-had-an-affair-with list.

In his new book, “The Death of American Virtue,” which details the 1990s standoff between President Clinton and special prosecutor Kenneth Starr, Gormley’s sources confirm the former president had a romantic relationship with Susan McDougal, who was jailed for her role in the Whitewater scandal.

“I can’t disclose my sources, but I can say they did have an affair, a brief affair, when Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas,” the author said. He was interviewed at the Georgetown Ritz-Carlton on Thursday for Carol Joynt’s Q&A Cafe.

Gormley spent nine years researching the book, talking to just about everyone ensnared in the scandal, including Clinton, Starr and Monica Lewinsky.

“These were both good people who somehow ended up in this train wreck,” he said of Clinton and Starr. Of Lewinsky, he said he believed she easily fell out of love with Clinton.

“Bill Clinton was not the person she thought he was,” Gormley explained.

After he did so much Clinton research, Yeas & Nays figured Gormley might be able to answer this question: So how many women has Clinton had affairs with now?

“I wouldn’t hazard a guess,” the author joked. “You’ll have to ask Bill Clinton.”
