Katie Couric is slated to make a homecoming of sorts. The University of Virginia announced Tuesday that the prominent television journalist would serve as its 2012 commencement speaker, according to the Associated Press. Couric graduated from the Charlottesville university back in 1979. “Although I’ve delivered quite a few commencement addresses, I consider it a special honor to be invited by U.Va. to speak at Final Exercises,” she told the Charlottesville Daily Progress. “My walk down the lawn was such a memorable day for me, and I can’t wait to share the experience with the class of 2012.” Commencement will take place May 20.
