Cee-Lo Green removed from military base concert lineup after Twitter comments about rape

It appears singer Cee-Lo Green offended the military with his outlandish comments on Twitter about rape, so much so that he has been removed from the list of performers at a Washington, D.C., navy base concert later this month.

Freedom LIVE, which bills itself on its website as a “concert brand presented by Naval District Washington (NDW) Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR),” announced Thursday that Green will no longer perform alongside Little Big Town on September 20 at the  Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.

“We seek a Department-wide culture of gender dignity and respect where sexual assault is completely eliminated and never tolerated, where sexual assault victims receive compassionate and coordinated support, and where offenders are held appropriately accountable,” reads a Freedom LIVE Facebook post from Thursday.

The organization called the singer’s Twitter comments about rape “completely inconsistent with Navy core values.”

“Regardless of intent or context, the lack of sensitivity towards an issue that is one of the great challenges facing our Navy is unacceptable,” the post continues. “As a result, we have made the decision to pull CeeLo Green from the Freedom Live event on 20 September.”

Freedom LIVE does offer individuals who purchased tickets with the intent of seeing Green perform the opportunity to get a refund for their purchase.

Green apologized for making the unsavory comments earlier this week, saying, “Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.”

The musical artist and former “Voice” judge also recently pleaded no contest to spiking a woman’s drink with Ecstasy in 2012.
