Just because Stephen Colbert has left The Colbert Report doesn’t mean he has relinquished his sarcasm.
The comedian responded to the historic Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage that came down Friday by posting a video to YouTube during which he declares, “Congratulations, gays.”
“Wow, history moves fast,” Colbert says in the clip. “It’s hard to believe gay Americans achieved full constitutional personhood just five years after corporations did.”
Colbert pokes fun at the four dissenting Supreme Court justices, singling out Justices John Roberts and Antonin Scalia in particular for their opinions on the gay marriage issue.
“Please come on my show, sir,” Colbert says to Scalia as he skewers the justice for his dissent.
Undoubtedly, there is more comedy like this to come from Colbert, who will headline his first episode of The Late Show on September 8.
