If you’re worried about never finding “the one,” let this be a reassuring story.
Charles Manson, an 80-year-old convicted murderer, is getting married to a 26-year-old named Afton Elaine Burton, as reports the Associated Press.
Manson was convicted of murdering seven people in 1970, and he is currently serving a life sentence in prison without parole. One of his victims was actress Sharon Tate, who was pregnant at the time.
Despite his past, 26-year-old Burton — who goes by the nickname “Star” — insists that she “love[s]” Manson and wants to go through with the ceremony so that she can continue to work on his case in the hopes of exonerating him.
Burton has been insisting on Manson’s innocence for nine years.
Though no wedding date has been specified, the prison has assigned a “wedding coordinator” to handle the couple’s ceremony.
“Y’all can know that it’s true,” Burton insisted of the marriage, which she said will take place in December. “It’s going to happen.”
“I love him,” she assured. “I’m with him. There’s all kinds of things.”
Ironically, Burton spoke to Rolling Stone about the prospect of marrying Manson in 2013, but Manson labeled the idea “a bunch of garbage.”
“We’re playing that for public consumption,” he added.
However, a spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections confirmed the issuing of the marriage license, which occurred on November 7.
