Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) is definitely enjoying his retirement, but even after an influx of leisure time, he still has no clue what twerking is — and he doesn’t seem to care.
His new media outlet, The Ron Paul Channel, has given him an opportunity to express his views to young, libertarian-minded fans who hold similar positions on political topics. But that doesn’t mean Paul understands their cultural preferences, such as twerking, as he admitted to BuzzFeed.
“When I’m totally oblivious to those very important things that people your age love they don’t hold it against me because they know the system I’m interested in,” Paul said. “Freedom of choice and freedom to allow people to have their own social values, they understand that.”
As far as keeping up with his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the former Texas Congressman said he doesn’t know if the possible 2016 presidential candidate has time to watch his new channel.
“He’s so busy,” Paul said. “I can’t watch all his YouTubes, because he’s on so many and I have my thing, so my guess would be he wouldn’t have time to [watch the channel], but he was on the channel.”
Someday, Paul would also like to have one of his most well-known campaign donors on the show: National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden.
When it comes to retirement from Congress, Paul said it has been nothing but enjoyable. Speaking at universities and talking to young people interested in libertarian philosophies have given him the ability to travel and take time completely to himself.
“Before, a lot of time consumed, but not really accomplishing a whole lot by running back and forth and going at the behest of the Speaker,” Paul stated. “So now I don’t have to do that and have more time to do the things that I enjoy doing.”
With the help of one of his former staffers, Paul has also started a new project, The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, which continues his lifetime of public advocacy for a peaceful foreign policy and protection of civil liberties at home.
