What’s more American than internal family strife during one of the most divisive elections we’ve seen in our country’s history? Yet, how many family members you know end up getting cursed because they support a different candidate?
Well, that’s what’s happening to President Barack Obama’s half-brother, Malik Obama.
According to the Washington Times, President Obama’s relatives in his ancestral village in Kogelo, Kenya (the birthplace of their father, Barack Obama, Sr.) are royally pissed at Malik for supporting Trump. His clan is so angry with him, they even cursed him.
“We have decided to curse him,” James Otieno, a clan elder, said. “He is not one of us here because he is eating with the enemy. Why can he disown Obama, who is respected around the globe? Obama’s presidency has helped this village.”
While President Obama hits the campaign trail hard for Hillary Clinton, Malik has come out in support for Republican nominee Donald Trump, and was even invited by Trump as a special guest to the third and final presidential debate with Clinton in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Malik, who was born in Kenya and later became a U.S. citizen, and Barack aren’t on the best terms, and believes his half-brother’s presidency has been a “big disappointment.”
He even wrote an op-ed about why he’s supporting the Republican nominee, stating that he won’t be humiliated and left behind under Trump like he was under Barack.
“Why did he not come home to Kogelo [the family village] on his visit to Kenya last year?” Malik wrote. “Why did he not provide for the family when they came to see him in Nairobi? (They experienced extreme hardship and left immediately after the dinner.)”
Malik continued by sharing his thoughts on Hillary and Trump, “Hillary Clinton is a liar and totally corrupt. What is her Clinton Foundation doing for Kenya if she loves Obama so much? Mr. Trump is a successful businessman. He will make America great again. He is not heartless.”
If Malik’s curse is real, he can return the favor by making America great again.
