DRUM BATTLE: Will Ferrell vs. Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers

The world is about to see an epic drum battle between Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer, Chad Smith.

Smith challenged Ferrell to the duel after Ferrell took to social media declaring that he and Smith are actually the same person. Ferrell accepted under the condition that they raise $300,000 for charity.

They raised the money — and now we are being rewarded.

It all started on Feb. 5, when Ferrell joked on Reddit that it is not, in fact, him manning the drum set for the Chili Peppers, and that Ferrell the person is actually a fiction.

“A lot of people think that it’s me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith.”

Ferrell then took to Instagram and made a video expressing how good it felt to get that burden of being two people off of his chest.

“Hello, I just want everyone to know that I had a great time on Reddit and it was great to finally clear up the fact that I am actually Chad Smith,” Ferrell said.

It didn’t take long for Smith to get on Instagram and reply to his doppelganger’s remarks.

“It’s Chad. Stop impersonating me. In fact, I need you — drum battle. Me and you. I’ve seen your skills, you don’t got ‘em. Let’s go. Golden cowbell. Winner. BOOM,” he said.

Ferrell responded to Smith’s Instagram video via Reddit and made a charitable counter-pitch.

“If we can raise $300,000 for Cancer For College I will face off with you in the greatest drum vs. cowbell showdown the world has ever seen,” Ferrell wrote. “We can do it on stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert or in front of a mutually convenient public library. Your call.”

Smith acknowledged the amended challenge — “Bring IT!” he wrote — and the charity threshold crossed the $300,000 mark this weekend.

While we wait for the specifics of the duel, let’s remember that Ferrell has one of the most inspirational coaches of all-time in his corner; a relatable man who puts his pants on one leg at a time, just like us.
