Update: UCF Diversity Chair resigns after facing criticism for anti-Trump rhetoric

Just last week Grayson Lanza, a vocal anti-Trump organizer, was confirmed as diversity chair for the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Student Government Association (SGA.) However, news broke yesterday of his resignation, due to controversy surrounding an October 31st Facebook post where he said “Trump supporters are not welcome on our campus.”

As previously reported by Red Alert Politics, Lanza had a history of confrontations with conservative students on campus and has likened President Trump to the KKK.

All of this hit a boiling point as calls for Lanza to resign were spread across social media and a protest was in formation.

Student Body President Nick Larkins and Vice President Cristina Barretto announced the resignation on their campaign’s Facebook page.

It read in part, “you have seen in the media recently, one of my Cabinet members, Grayson Lanza, has been under the microscope… When appointing him to the position of Diversity and Outreach Coordinator, I stressed my campaign promise about creating an environment in SGA that is inclusive and supportive of all students… Grayson has made the decision to step down from his post and I have accepted his resignation.”

UCF’s College Republicans had a simple, but hilarious message for the outgoing diversity chair.

The position of UCF diversity chair is once again vacant and the SGA will begin accepting applications next week. Larkins stresses his commitment to “actively represent all students regardless of age, religion, gender, political affiliation, sexual orientation” and the like.
