Comedienne Sarah Silverman recently starred in an R-rated video titled “An Indecent Proposal from Sarah Silverman” attacking casino magnate and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson for donating to Mitt Romney. In the video, Sarah Silverman campaigns against Romney by offering to perform a sex act with Adelson if he donates his money to the Obama campaign instead.
The video begins with words flashing on screen that say, “Billionaires are giving Romney a record breaking amount of money for his campaign this year. 78-year-old casino magnate Sheldon Adelson of Las Vegas, has pledged to give Romney $100 million to defeat Barack Obama.”
Then, Silverman appears on screen and succeeds in completely degrading politics by sarcastically offering up her own “indecent proposal” in which she promises to see him “through to fruition…” via “traditional lesbian sex” if he promises “to give that $100 million to Obama instead of Romney.” Viewers then see Silverman in a bikini on a couch, attempting to demonstrate lesbian sex with her dog, while she encourages viewers to go to a website “to help cut Mitt Romney free from his sugar daddy.”
“Indecent Proposal” criticizes the PAC-funding of Mitt Romney, yet the Jewish Council for Education and Research, a Federal Super PAC relying on private funding, paid for the video and its companion website. So, not only is Silverman’s video vulgar… it’s hypocritical.
The video relies on the shock-value to make a hypocritical and thus useless argument, and Silverman’s dialogue is much more disgusting than it is funny. Does Barack Obama really want people like Sarah Silverman—who apparently know nothing about politics or making people laugh—campaigning for him?
Among Sarah Silverman’s other recent projects was her role in The Muppets Movie, a film that’s target audience is young children. Her use of expletives and sexually suggestive actions in “Indecent Proposal” make her the opposite of a role model and in the wake of this vulgar video, Sarah Silverman should never be hired to entertain children.
