MSNBC host Ed Schultz is known for his off-the-cuff exaggerations, but it’s rare that he extends them into prophecy the way he did on Wednesday night’s show when he predicted that five million Americans will have signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act by March 2014.

Schultz was talking about how successful the healthcare exchanges have been in recent weeks based on the numbers released by federal officials earlier in the day. According to the reports, about 365,000 people nationwide signed up for the healthcare exchanges in October and November.

“I mean, if we have got 3 million people who have been on to it already, where are we going to be in April?!?” Schultz asked, referring to the number of people who have visited the Healthcare.gov site over the past two-and-a-half months. “This baby is going to be off the chart!”

“I’m going to make a prediction tonight. It’s going to hit 5 million by March 1st. That’s right, FIVE MILLION people signed up by MARCH 1st. Get your tapes rolling at home, folks. Because it’s going to be a big I told you so.”

Don’t worry Ed, we’ll be watching to see if your vision comes true.
