Despite disagreeing on several things about the midterm election, liberal comedian Jon Stewart and Fox News host Bill O’Reilly both believe that the November 4 results show that President Obama is an “outsider.”
Stewart joined O’Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor” last week to promote his new movie “Rosewater,” and the Fox News host took the opportunity to grill the comedian on what went wrong for Democrats during the midterm election.
After poking fun at each others’ appearances, Stewart and O’Reilly pondered why Democrats got their “butts kicked.”
“Why did they get their butts kicked?” said Stewart. “Because they curled up in a little ball and tried to make sure that nobody hit them too hard. I have no idea what they even ran on.”
“Here’s what they ran on,” continued the comedian. “‘We don’t like Barack Obama either. I don’t know who voted for him. We’ve got nothing to do with the guy.'”
Stewart added that Democrats are “frightened … of not having principle,” provoking O’Reilly to disagree.
“No,” countered the Fox News host. “They’re frightened of [Obama’s] low poll numbers because most Americans don’t think he’s doing a good job.”
Stewart then suggested that the way in which Democrats ran away from Obama demonstrated that he is not the “leader” of his own party.
“I believe he has a bit of disdain for the Democrats, I believe they have a little disdain for him,” explained Stewart. “It’s not like the Clinton machine, which truly was the head.”
When O’Reilly described Obama as “an outsider,” Stewart agreed. However, one thing they certainly could not find common ground on was why Democrats lost.
“Here’s why the Democrats lost,” O’Reilly told Stewart. “Because the callow youth that watches your program didn’t show up.”
