McCain: ‘If I looked like Senator Flake, I might be president’

In a moment of reflection, Arizona Republican Senator John McCain said he might have been elected president if he “looked like” Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake.

Sen. Flake was ranked number one on The Hill Newspaper’s “50 Most Beautiful People” list for 2013.

“It’s been a great privilege to work with Senator Jeff Flake who I think is a worthy successor to our great Senator – his great predecessor Jon Kyl,” said McCain on Tuesday at an immigration town hall in Arizona.

“Many of you may not know by the way that recently one of the Hill periodicals pointed out that Senator Flake was voted the best looking member of the United States Congress and I’ve often said if I looked like Senator Flake, I might be president of the United States.”

Flake responded, saying, “I’d like to thank my wife for voting.”

McCain ran for president against then-Senator Barack Obama of Illinois in 2008.

Flake was elected to the Senate in 2012 after serving in the House for 12 years.
