Hillary Clinton really needs to get a better defense.
Amidst an effort to defuse the controversy surrounding the former secretary of State’s private e-mail account, senior advisor for the super PAC Ready for Hillary Tracy Sefl claimed on CNN Wednesday that Clinton’s reference to “the dress” phenomenon during a speech Tuesday was her “subtle way” of addressing the storm surrounding her State Department correspondence.
“Over the years, people have read a lot of different things into my pantsuits,” Clinton had said at a function for EMILY’s List Tuesday night. “Despite what you might think, this outfit is not actually white and gold.”
While Hillary remained publicly mum on her e-mails until she tweeted about them Wednesday night, Sefl appeared certain earlier that day that Clinton had alluded to the controversy with the “white and gold” quip.
“I know we’re all tired of that ‘dress’ thing, but she did open her remarks with a reference to her pantsuit and what color it was,” the Ready for Hillary aide said of Clinton’s speech. “And, I actually was thinking about that again today.”
“In some ways, she was making a reference to all of this that we are talking about because some people will choose to read something into it that simply isn’t there,” Sefl continued. “And, I think that was her subtle way of addressing this.”
It appears Ready for Hillary is headquartered in Hillary Clinton’s brain, as that type of subtlety would rarely be detected anywhere else.
And, by the way, that sort of subtelty is exactly what Americans want in a future leader who will be dealing [insert global crisis] left behind by President Obama. Totally.
David Axelrod was right: Ready for Hillary is “dangerous.”
