Ellen DeGeneres slams Caitlyn Jenner for 'having a judgement about gay marriage'

DeGeneres slams Jenner on gay marriage stance

Ellen DeGeneres slammed Caitlyn Jenner's position on gay marriage, which the reality star revealed in an interview on the season premiere of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

DeGeneres later discussed the interview with Howard Stern.

"[Jenner] still has a judgement about gay marriage," DeGeneres told Stern on his radio show Tuesday. "You're wanting people to understand and accept you, and this is really confusing to people, and you still have a judgement about gay people and marriage."

Stern was surprised by Jenner's position and asked Ellen if she danced with the reality star during the interview, as the TV host is known to do with guests.

"No, she didn't dance. I don't think she's a dancer," DeGeneres said. "Maybe she didn't want to dance with me because I'm a lesbian."

The host also added that many members of the GOP probably wish Jenner would leave the party.

In the original interview that also aired on Tuesday, DeGeneres opened up the conversation about politics.

"I know you're very conservative, and you have been very conservative, you say you're a Republican," DeGeneres said during the interview.

"That's not a bad thing," replied Jenner.

The host said that most Republicans would be opposed to issues important to the transgender community, including same-sex marriage.

Jenner countered by saying she wasn't always on board with the issue herself, and still only reluctantly accepts same-sex marriage.

"I have to admit, that I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago, whenever this whole gay marriage issue came up, at first I was not for it,"Jenner explained. "I'm a traditionalist, I'm a lot older than most people in the audience, I kind of like tradition and it's always been a man and a woman."

Jenner said she is on board with same-sex marriage now. "I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness, that's not my job," she said. "If that word 'marriage' is really, really that important to you, I can go with it," Jenner added.

The host was annoyed by Jenner's libertarian position, rather than supporting gay marriage for the progressive reason of equality.
