Not "inclusive": Public schools ban valentines day

Public schools ban valentines day

Minnesota public schools are trying to be more inclusive to immigrants and their children, so they are abandoning American holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Valentines Day.

Fox News reported that Bruce Vento Elementary School, in St. Paul, Minn., will stop celebrating "dominant holidays" like Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

“My personal feeling is we need to find a way to honor and engage in holidays that are inclusive of our student population,” said Principal Scott Masini in a letter to students' parents.

“I have come to the difficult decision to discontinue the celebration of the dominant holidays until we can come to a better understanding of how the dominant view will suppress someone else’s view,” the principal continued.

The PC principal is afraid that a student who immigrated to America will see a picture of a turkey on Thanksgiving, be reminded they're not in their country of origin, and become offended.

After all that's really the point of America, to assimilate to the cultural norms of immigrants -- that's why everyone speaks German, goes to Catholic masses, and celebrates Cinco de Mayo as an official holiday.

“One of the concerns that I have,” Masini continued, “…is whether or not this practice is encroaching on the educational opportunities of others and threatening the culture of tolerance and respect for all.”

There has been huge pushback by the local press and even public radio, but the principal is standing firm like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, telling his students "No, Valentine for you!"
