The swearing in of the U.S. Senate is a magical time where the vice president of our nation really gets to shine.
And the 2015 ceremony did not disappoint. Vice President Joe Biden was in rare form with his compliments, maybe-too-close hand placements, and gif-able moments. But maybe no moment was quite as memorable as the viral video of Sen. Chris Coons' daughter, Maggie Coons, turning away uncomfortably as Biden went in for the kiss.
Chris Wallace, host of “Fox News Sunday,” couldn’t help but ask Coons (D-Del.) about the video and we are so glad he did.
“I have to ask, cause a lot of people have been speculating about it, does she think the vice president is creepy?” Wallace asked.
“No, Chris,” Coons said laughing. “She doesn’t think the vice president is creepy.”
Coons said that Biden has known his kids their entire lives and that the VP was just trying to be helpful.
“I could hear him,” he said. “He was leaning forward and whispering some encouragement to her about how when he was sworn in his own daughter Ashley was 13 and she felt awkward and uncomfortable.”
Coons said that Maggie is taking her viral fame in stride.
“I think she’s pleasantly surprised that more people have heard of her than have heard of me,” he said.
