Those who manage to escape the San Francisco Bay Area (myself included) often regale our new neighbors with terrifying tales of the leftist homeland: homeless encampments, poop-tracking apps, and $4,000 rent, held together with crime and overpriced coffee.
But for those who live in neighborhoods that continue to cling to ideological sanity, many of these stories sound too ridiculous to be true — the musings of a traumatized conservative delighted to have escaped the socialist nation of California.
CALIFORNIA TEACHER EDUCATES ELEMENTARY-AGE CHILDREN ABOUT TRANSGENDERISM
Anyone who has any remaining doubt regarding the final descent of San Francisco into leftist chaos, though, should look no further than its GIFT program: Guaranteed Income for Transgender People.
In other words, taxpayers are giving transgender people in San Francisco $1,200 a month.
Under “the Transgender District and Lyon-Martin Community Health Services, in partnership with municipal city departments in the City and County of San Francisco,” the program will supposedly “provide economically marginalized transgender people with unrestricted, monthly guaranteed income as a way to combat poverty our most impacted community members face.”
In total, 55 transgender residents of San Francisco County will receive $1,200 a month in guaranteed income for a total of 18 months. That amounts to $21,600 per resident and $1,188,000 in total.
But not to worry — identity politics apply to transgender people, with GIFT prioritizing those who are black, indigenous, or people of color, as well “monolingual Spanish-speakers” (those who can’t or don’t speak English), those who are “undocumented” (illegal immigrants), and those who are “formerly incarcerated” (criminals).
In addition to the $1,200 monthly payout, Lyon-Martin Community Health Services will also provide so-called “wrap-around” services, including “gender-affirming” care, which can often cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Applicants must be above the age of 18, identify as “transgender, nonbinary, gender noncomforming, or intersex,” live in the city and county of San Francisco, earn less than $600 per month, be willing to complete a survey every three months during the program, and (best of all) provide valid photo ID.
Setting aside the ridiculous fact that San Francisco is looking to hand money to residents simply for being transgender, we spiral into the utterly obscene when we take a look at the program application form.
Listed are 18 pronouns, which seem like the outcome of an overzealous use of Google Translate. Applicants are directed to “check all that apply” from a list of almost 100 gender identities, including “man of trans experience,” “brotherboy,” “butch,” “boi,” “stud,” “aggressive,” “genderf***,” “maverique,” and even “I don’t use labels” for the wokest of the woke. And then, there are the sexual orientation options, which read like a compilation of homophobic insults from an ’80s action movie, with choices including “queer,” “dyke,” and “f*****.”
And while San Francisco is handing out cash to its transgender residents, California stares down a $25 billion budget deficit in 2023 under the hair-gelled, maniacally grinning leadership of likely future presidential candidate Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Make no mistake: San Francisco craziness is coming to a town near you, and unless you’re an indigenous person of color who self-identifies as a homeless, formerly incarcerated, part-time sex-working man of trans experience, it’s going to cost you.
