At Yale University last week, Hasan Piker proclaimed, “The fall of the USSR was one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century.” This is who Democrats have hitched their wagons to.
Democrats have been surrounding themselves with some pretty shady characters since the 1960s: flag-burners, classroom disruptors, even terrorist sympathizers. But when the party centers a crass blowhard with an affinity for America’s darkest adversaries, we have to take a good, close look at Team Donkey and ask: what are you doing?

The progressive Left’s decision to embrace toxic demagogues such as Piker is further alienating their voting base and driving people away from supporting Democrats. What does it mean to moderate, independent, Jewish, and female voters that their side is branding itself with a figure known for comments hostile to people they know and love?

Women are sure to be uncomfortable with a man who “joked and mused about men date-raping women on a college campus.” Jews are unlikely to be pleased with his calling their ethnic group “inbred.” Still others will be alarmed by his embrace of racial slurs or the viral clips that critics characterized as animal abuse after his dog was heard yelping during a livestream.
Despite all of this, the Democratic platform’s embrace of Piker and his poison has been warm and heartfelt. Figures such as Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and congressional candidate Saikat Chakrabarti have appeared on his show for interviews.
Piker is unapologetic not only in his deep hatred of the United States but also of those who serve it. Early in his streaming career, Piker drew the ire of both sides of the aisle for making the sickening claim that “America deserved 9/11”. He then went on to ridicule Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), who was severely wounded in both eyes serving in combat as a Navy SEAL when he was struck by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Piker lauded his terrorist attacker, labeling him “a brave F** soldier [who violated] his eyehole.” Further, Piker used his platform to call for another sitting U.S. senator to be killed, a statement for which he was suspended on the Twitch platform.
This is who Piker is, and whom too many Democrats have chosen to elevate. For further illustration, when a Vietnamese refugee appeared on his show, he verbally abused her, saying: “F** you, old lady. Shut the F** up you stupid F**G idiotic old lady. … F** this refugee.” In the days following the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, Piker referred to a Jewish viewer as a “bloodthirsty pig dog,” and later laughed at and made fun of a Jewish woman who simply thanked Vice President Harris for her advocacy on behalf of the hostages and raised concerns about campus antisemitism.
The general tone of Piker’s commentary is violent and alarming. He calls the Republican Party the “biggest domestic terrorist” group in the U.S. Beyond mere insults, his policy prescriptions are shocking, as he has justified Hamas’s killing of babies as both legal and moral.
Piker has consistently advocated support for the U.S.’s most bloodthirsty adversaries. He said that the terrorist group “Hamas is a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state [Israel].” He has boasted that he has “[no] issue” with the Lebanese terrorist faction Hezbollah and offered a platform to a self-proclaimed “Pirate King’ who filmed himself aboard a ship seized by the Houthis and openly celebrated their attacks.
His “America Last” attitude extends well beyond the Middle East. He has encouraged Vladimir Putin’s conquest spree, saying, “I call [Crimea] a part of Russian territory, b***h. I call it Crimea River, a Russian river.” He drew outrage for a “humanitarian” visit to Cuba, bolstering the communist regime there; and while the local population suffered a historic blackout, he stayed in a five-star hotel and maintained an influencer lifestyle. As the Cuban population scrounged for the bare essentials, Piker flaunted luxury fashion and took advantage of the finest travel amenities.
Piker visited communist China and returned singing its praises, despite its government’s ongoing genocide of the Muslim Uyghur minority. Even though the Chinese government stopped him from filming in public, he markets the Chinese Communist Party to his millions of social media followers. Piker has indicated sympathy for the goals of communism, calling it “the final goal” of socialism.

When too many Democrats allow someone such as Piker to represent their image, it becomes tragically clear to all Americans exactly what they stand for.
Republicans shouldn’t cheer this on. A healthy country requires a serious opposition, one that can disagree without embracing figures who despise the country itself. When a major political party decides that someone who cheers for America’s enemies is an asset rather than a liability, it isn’t just the party that pays the price.
