Son, 2 others, charged in 87-year-old Virginia man's death

Three people have been arrested in the death of an 87-year-old Arlington man, police said.

Arrested were the victim's son, Mack Leon Wood Jr., 47, and two other men, Jean Caleb Pierre, 32, and Sapien Edmonds, 29, all three of Henrico, Va.

All three are charged with first-degree murder in the October 2012 death of Mack L. Wood, of the 3700 block of N. Wakefield Street.

The investigation began when the incident was reported as an accidental death on the morning of Oct. 13, 2012, Arlington County police said. Wood Sr.'s body was discovered inside his home by his son, said Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Authorities determined that Wood Sr.'s death was a homicide, but Sternbeck did not release the cause of death, citing the ongoing investigation.

Arrests warrants for all three men were obtained last week, he said. Pierre and Edmonds were arrested Saturday morning.

Wood Jr. was in the Tampa area and picked up by U.S. Marshals in Florida on Monday.

Arlington police detectives flew down to Florida for the initial interview.

All three suspects are being held Tuesday without bond.
