For anyone still wondering whether having a coach-in-waiting is a good idea, we give you West Virginia. We’re guessing Mountaineers athletic director Oliver Luck is having a change of heart on this idea. And there’s little doubt that coach Bill Stewart wasn’t thrilled about having his successor on staff when he isn’t ready to be succeeded.
A story broke late last month that the coach-in-waiting, Dana Holgorsen, had been thrown out of six places because of his alcohol-fueled behavior since January. According a report, Stewart’s wife was a source for this story, which cited anonymous sources.

A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter who covered West Virginia last season said earlier this week that Stewart called him in December asking him to “dig up dirt” on Holgorsen.
There are reports that West Virginia may buy out Stewart’s contract. We don’t know whether Luck will lose his job. We do know it’s a good thing his son Andrew is in line to make mega-millions next year.
