Taking his cue from ESPN, Friendship Collegiate defensive tackle Eddie Goldman announced his college choice Wednesday morning at his school in Northeast. “This fall, I will attend Florida State University,” said Goldman, a five-star recruit.
With that, one of the area’s most sought-after recruits disappointed Auburn and Alabama. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder is rated the fourth-best tackle in the class of 2012.

Later in the day, one of the area’s most-coveted speedsters, Ronald Darby of Potomac High in Oxon Hill, also announced on national TV that he would sign with Florida State. The 5-11, 175-pound Darby originally had committed to Notre Dame. He played running back and cornerback at Potomac and is expected to play defense for the Seminoles.
Another five-star recruit, Stefon Diggs of Good Counsel, is taking his time. The speedy wide receiver will choose from among Maryland, Ohio State, Florida and Auburn. He plans to announce later this month.
