ESPN Classic will pay tribute to Joe Torre, Yankees manager for the past 12 seasons Friday beginning at 7 p.m., ET.   The Yankees announced today that Torre will not return as the team manager next season.

1996 World Series Yankess vs. Braves, Game 6 – Yankee Stadium Bronx, NY

The Braves could do little with NewYork starter Jimmy Key and Yankeee closer John Wetteland shut the door as Joe Torre won his first world series as Yankees manager.  Torre was also named manager of the year in 1996.

1998 World Series Yankees vs. Padres, Game 1 – Yankee Stadium Bronx, NY

After a wild pitch and two walks in the bottom of the seventh, Tino Martinez cracked a grand-slam home run over the right-field wall, and the Yankees would go on to win 9-6. Torre was named manager of the year in 1998.

2000 World Series Mets vs. Yankees, Game 5 – Shea Stadium, New York, NY

The Yankees win the  team’s  third consecutive world series title, the first  team  to do so since the A’s from 1972-74.  This was also the first subway series since 1956.

2001 World Series Yankees vs. Diamondbacks, Game 5 – Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY 1am – 3am

The last world series victory Joe Torre as manager of the Yankees was certainly dramatic. Third baseman Scott Brosius hit a game-tying, two-run homer with two out in the ninth inning and rookie Alfonso Soriano had a game-winning RBI single in the 12th  inning  to win game 5.
