Hand has been named the official jeweler of the pageant, and Nelson will be the first Miss America to wear Hand’s piece, as it is unveiled at Cafe Milano. Emceeing the evening event will be former Miss America and TV journalist Phyllis George.

“The first piece of Ann Hand jewelry I purchased was the famous Liberty Eagle; in fact, I wrote the message that goes with it,” George said in a news release. “I think it is appropriate that Miss America jewelry be created and designed in the nation’s capital by Ann Hand.”

Hand previously has created brooches for all the Armed Services, the Naval Academy, West Point and the official pin worn by the spouses of the U.S. House of Representatives.
