Hoyas get a break … sort of

Providence, Rutgers up next on schedule

If ever there was a reprieve in the Big East, this week would be it for Georgetown. The Hoyas will face consecutive opponents with losing records in conference play, starting with struggling Providence (12-11, 4-7 Big East), who have lost five of their last six, before visiting Rutgers (11-12, 2-9) on Saturday.

Of course, overlooking the opponent was exactly what cost the Hoyas (17-5, 7-4) last week against South Florida.

“We’re as good as we want to be,” said sophomore center Greg Monroe after Georgetown overwhelmed Villanova, 103-90, on Saturday.

Providence finished 19-14 in its first season under head coach Keno Davis, but his squad, which averages the second most points in the Big East (82.3 per game) hasn’t been able to stop anyone of late, giving up a conference-worst 79.0 ppg.

Given the worsened weather forecast for Washington, the Hoyas may choose not to return on Wednesday and instead head directly to Piscataway, N.J.
