Nationals minor-league pitcher Josh Smoker underwent left shoulder surgery on Tuesday to remove a bone spur. No further structural damage was found, so the 19-year-old left-hander, Washington’s first-round supplemental draft pick in 2007, should be ready for spring training. The surgery was performed by renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews.
