MIAMI (AP) — Heat guard Ray Allen says a friend of his family was among those who lost a leg in Monday’s explosions at the Boston Marathon, and that another friend owned the restaurant that employed the 29-year-old woman who was killed in the blasts.

Allen has been a spectator at the marathon several times, going back to his days with the Boston Celtics. He says his mother has run the marathon three times and that his wife has done so twice.

Allen says that if he was still with the Celtics, he likely would have been at the finish line around the time of the explosions on Monday, waiting for his mother and wife to complete their runs.

The Heat held a moment of silence before their game with the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night to remember the marathon victims.
