The theme this week for the Orioles? farm system, ironically, was movement.
The most significant one came from Double-A Bowie, where former first-round selection Richard Stahl was released. The left-handed pitcher had been bumping around the minors since 1999, when he was drafted 18th overall by the Orioles.

“His velocity was down and his numbers were down,” Orioles minor league director Dave Stockstill said. “He is a hard worker, but we just felt it was time.”
Other moves by the Baysox this week included the promotion of Frederick closer Jim Hoey and a carousel of moves involving pitchers James Johnson and Cory Morris. On July 28, when Johnson was promoted to Baltimore for a spot start against the White Sox the following night, Morris went from Triple-A Ottawa to Bowie to take his place. Johnson was shelled in his start against Chicago and returned to Bowie July 30, prompting Morris? return to Ottawa the following day.
Ottawa lost two other pitchers to the Orioles when Julio Manon and Winston Abreu were brought up, while Eddy Rodriguez was sent down to Ottawa on Tuesday after allowing five runs in two innings.
OTTAWA LYNX (56-55)
Former Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera is throwing consistently in Ottawa since being demoted July 14. He is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA and his strikeout-to-walk ratio is 19-8 in his three appearances.
BOWIE BAYSOX (42-50)
With seven Triple-A starts under his belt, Garrett Olson?s stats have begun to level. His 3.14 ERA and a 4-2 record have Olson among the best pitchers on the Orioles? Eastern League squad.
FREDERICK KEYS (44-62)
With the transfer of Hoey to Bowie on Monday, Manuel Basilio stepped in for the Keys at closer for Tuesday?s game against Wilmington. Basilio threw a shutout inning to end the game in his 11th relief appearance of the season.
DELMARVA SHOREBIRDS (13-23)
Blake Owen is the lone pitcher over .500 on a Shorebirds roster that has undergone many changes over the last month. He is 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA in his 40 relief appearances this season.
BLUEFIELD ORIOLES (19-21)
Billy Rowell, the Orioles? first-round selection in this year?s draft, is holding his own at rookie-league Bluefield. He is hitting .279 with eight RBI through 19 games Wednesday.
