Cheers & Jeers: A bad weekend to be a Michigan man

Our big losers from the first weekend of college football:

1. MICHIGAN WOLVERINES » Yielded only 30 yards of offense in the second half, blocked a punt and recovered a fumble, but still came up short against Utah at home. Maize and blue? Try dazed and blue.

2. CLEMSON TIGERS » Four new starters on the offensive line revealed what everyone who closely follows college football already knew: Cullen Harper is terrible and Tommy Bowden can’t win big games.

3. PITTSBURGH PANTHERS » Offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh calling plays the same way for Panthers like he did for Ravens: like he has no idea what he is doing.

4. TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS » Don’t believe UCLA is that good. New offensive coordinator Dave Clawson could soon become former offensive coordinator.

5. VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES » Being the best team in the Atlantic Coast Conference is like being the least-ugly duckling. Now Westfield High alum Sean Glennon is on the clock, with Tyrod Taylor no longer being redshirted. It’s a matter of time; Glennon’s immobility and lack of arm strength are a tough combination with a weak line.
